This is a feeling, that I do not understand how anyone else feels but I know it is real and it is there. And I know that I can finish the race, no matter where I am in it. I know I can do things that the average rider cannot do. I know what I want to do and I know I can. I know I think differently, no matter where I go or who I’m with. But Enduro also gives the best opportunity for anyone that can ride a bike and stay alive to be the best rider in their category.Įnduro is so individual though, what do you think makes you stand out? It is not for everyone, or even most people, because the sport itself is split into so many different disciplines technical, stamina, speed and endurance. I have found Enduro to be the most individual and the hardest form of racing in the world, but also the most rewarding and the best. You have to be good on the bike (which includes climbing, technical, stamina and speed), but then you have to be the most efficient, most consistent in the most technical areas, and then you have to carry your speed, stamina and bike handling off the bike and on the run, which is easier said than done. This is one of the biggest problems when it comes to Enduro, not that there isn’t enough training, but that there are so many different facets to the sport that you are expected to be good in every discipline. This includes training to become a better all-round rider. Although it’s my main event and I spend most of my time preparing for it and training for it, I also train to get better all year round. I compete in Enduro for many different reasons, to be honest. Nationally & Internationally Ranked CoachĬan you tell us a little bit about why you want to compete in Enduro? And even when Mr Davutoğlu came out of the woods, he qualified his words by saying it was only one option for reform among many.52Putting The Pressure On - A Lifelong Occupation He showed he was his own man by resisting months of pressure to publicly support Mr Erdoğan’s plans for an executive presidency. Remember his attempt to bring intelligence chief Hakan Fidan as a right-hand man? He was ultimately unsuccessful, yes, but he resisted a full month before relenting. Some describe Mr Davutoğlu as Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s subservient puppet, but that is unfair because he has done plenty to show that he isn’t. And then there’s Mr Erdoğan himself – how to save him face and wrest control of his party at the same time? Not a pushover On the other, he has to strike a coalition deal with at least one of three opposition parties, all of which spent the campaign baying for that predecessor’s blood. On the one hand he leads an AK Party with large swathes of membership fiercely loyal to his predecessor. The only question is whether he will take it. This election presents his successor with an opportunity to demonstrate that he is, in the words of Hurriyet Daily News editor Murat Yetkin, “Turkey’s prime minister and not its deputy president”. Not an easy taskīut that doesn’t mean Recep Tayyip Erdoğan should always be the de facto leader of Turkey’s main centre-right party. He handpicked his successor as AK Party leader, made political advisors out of the most senior AK Party MPs who were leaving parliament at the election and, most prominently of all, held rallies around the country during the campaign – 46 of them, by our count. There is of course no point pretending that Mr Erdoğan kept that impartiality – he didn’t. ![]() Turkey’s president formally relinquished all ties to the party when he was elected to the politically neutral top job last year. Remember – on not one piece of paper anywhere does it say the AK Party belongs to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Is Davutoğlu Turkey’s prime minister or vice president?
